what is a qr code?

What is a QR Code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that encodes information, such as URL links, text or other data. It is used to quickly and easily transfer information between two sources. QR codes can be scanned by a digital camera, smartphone, or specialized QR scanner (optionally equipped with a standard 1-D or 2-D barcode scanner). Once the code is scanned, it directs the user to web content or opens specific data.

The QR code was developed by Denso Wave in Japan for use in the automotive industry for tracking parts and components, but it has quickly become popular and expanded its use into various other industries throughout the world. QR codes are similar to conventional barcodes but are capable of containing much more information in a much smaller package. They are also much easier to scan and can be read from any direction.

QR codes effectively bridge the gap between physical and digital worlds by providing users with a convenient way of accessing content or data stored on a website, especially if they don't have access to their phones. Features like allowing access to pre-filled forms eliminated time consuming manual processes are also popular with businesses using them for customer rewards, check-ins at stores, coupons and deals as part of their marketing strategy
